Building on the strength and simplicity of our funds, we are also a leading provider of investment management and pension administration services to defined contribution and defined benefit plans of all sizes. Our pension-related services in Barbados also include Registered Retirement Savings Plans, “drawdown” annuities to provide income to retirees from their accumulated savings, and a Multi-Employer Pension Plan for companies who wish to completely outsource their pension plans.

Island Securities Ltd – is a private investment company, owned 100% by Roger Cave, Fortress’ investment director.

The Nation Corporation – is the largest news and media company in Barbados. Its principal subsidiary, the Nation Publishing Co. Limited publishes the leading daily newspaper. Another subsidiary, STARCOM Network Inc., operates four radio stations, including the Voice of Barbados.

Cave Shepherd & Co. Limited – is a public company listed on the Barbados Stock Exchange. Cave Shepherd is a diverse and multi-faceted regional organisation with interests in retail, tourism, financial services, property development, renewable energy, and international business.

Fortress Staff Share Scheme – a vehicle for share ownership for employees of Fortress Fund Managers.

 

Community

Fortress Fund Managers Limited makes an annual donation to The Barbados Community Foundation, a charitable foundation registered under the Charities Act, Cap. 243. The purpose of the Foundation is to enhance the quality of life in Barbados by sourcing and managing funds, which will be distributed to needy organisations at the discretion of its trustees.

The company also makes donations to a number of organisations and individuals annually through its internal Charitable Giving Committee.

Management

Roger Cave CA, CFA – Investment Director

Roger Cave is the founder and Investment Director of Fortress Fund Managers. He has managed the Fortress funds since 1996, achieving some of the best long term track records in the region. Prior to founding Fortress, Roger worked with PriceWaterhouse and the Commonwealth Development Corporation in Barbados as well as Coopers & Lybrand in Toronto. He is a CFA charterholder and a Chartered Accountant. Roger is a non-executive director of various organizations including Cave Shepherd & Company, SigniaGlobe Financial Group, DGM Financial Group and Overseas Asset Management. Roger is responsible for the overall investment and business strategy at Fortress.

Peter Arender, CFA – Chief Investment Officer, Fortress Advisory & Investment Services

Peter Arender is Chief Investment Officer of Fortress Advisory & Investment Services in Barbados, where he is responsible for investments across Fortress’ range of mutual funds and segregated portfolios. He has over 25 years’ varied experience in financial markets and joined Fortress in 2009. Prior to that, he was Chief Investment Officer of a privately held offshore bank in Barbados. He was portfolio manager at Acker Finley Asset Management in Toronto for five years, and a Vice President of Institutional Bond Sales at Toronto Dominion Securities for six years. His focus is on developing and applying highly disciplined strategies to the portfolio management process. He is a CFA charterholder, a past member of the board of the CFA Society Barbados, and a past president of the CFA Society Toronto.

Dionne Thompson BSc., FCCA – Chief Financial Officer

Dionne Thompson is the Chief Financial Officer. She joined Fortress in 2006 and is a qualified accountant. Dionne previously worked as a manager in the Advisory Services Division at PwC Barbados with over seven years’ experience in various roles at the professional services firm. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados and the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants.

Rene Delmas BSc, FLMI – Pension Director

René Delmas is the Pension Director. He joined Fortress in 2003 when the Fortress Caribbean Pension Fund was launched. He is responsible for all aspects of marketing and administration of the Pension Fund. He has more than 30 years’ experience in the pension industry, having had responsibility for the pension portfolio of one of the largest Caribbean insurers for many years. René is a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.
